Privacy Policy
Last updated 13 June 2026
Vejen ("Vejen", "we", "us") is a driving-exploration app that records your drives, reveals the roads you've covered on a personal map, and lets you compete on stint leaderboards. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It is written with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in mind.
Who we are
The data controller is [Vejen — legal entity name & registered address, TBC], based in Denmark. For any privacy question or to exercise your rights, contact [privacy contact email, TBC].
What we collect
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Account — email address, a securely hashed password (never stored in plain text), and your display name. | To create and secure your account and show who holds a stint crown. |
| Drive location data — the GPS track of each drive (coordinates, speed, and timestamps for each point), plus start/end time and distance. Recorded automatically when the app detects driving, or when you start a drive manually. | To draw your fog-of-war map, calculate distance covered, and detect when you complete a stint. |
| Home zone (optional) — a home location and radius you set in the app. | To frame your coverage stats and to mask a private radius around your home from any geometry you share. |
| Stints & completions — routes you create and a record of the stints you complete. | To run stint leaderboards and award crowns. |
| Waitlist — your email, only if you submit it on our website. | To notify you when an iOS version is available. |
| Technical — standard server logs (e.g. IP address, request time). Our website also loads fonts from Google Fonts, which may receive your IP address. | To operate, secure, and debug the service. |
We do not currently collect crash or analytics data. If we enable crash reporting in future, we will update this policy first.
Location & background access
With your permission, Vejen uses your device's location and physical-activity signals to detect when you start driving and to record the drive — including while the app is closed or in the background. You can turn auto-detection off in the app's settings at any time, and you can revoke location permission in your device settings. Without location access, the core features of Vejen do not function.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your data. We share it only with the service providers needed to run Vejen:
- Railway — hosting and database. Your data is stored on Railway's managed infrastructure [confirm EU region].
- Google Maps — used to display maps in the app; Google processes location data to render map tiles, subject to Google's privacy policy.
- Mapbox — the coordinates of your drives are sent to Mapbox's Map Matching service to snap your track to the real road network for a cleaner map, subject to Mapbox's privacy policy.
Legal basis
- Consent — for collecting precise and background location. You may withdraw it at any time by disabling tracking or deleting your account.
- Contract — to provide the account and features you sign up for.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. [Retention/aggregation window for raw GPS points to be defined — e.g. downsample after N months.] When you delete your account, all of your personal data is permanently erased (see below).
Your rights
Under GDPR you have the right to access, correct, export, restrict, or object to the processing of your data, to withdraw consent, and to erase your data. You can delete your account and all associated data yourself — see Deleting your account. For any other request, contact [privacy contact email, TBC]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet, datatilsynet.dk).
Children
Vejen is not directed at children and is intended for licensed drivers.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date above.
